CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Mindanao Civic Center in Tubod, Lanao del Norte has earned FIFA's Third Field Certification, qualifying the 71-hectare sports complex to host international football matches and strengthening the province's bid to become a premier sports destination in Mindanao.
First District Rep. Imelda Quibranza Dimaporo announced the certification, signed by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, during a ceremony at the complex on Friday.
Dimaporo said the recognition reflects the provincial government's sustained investment in world-class sports infrastructure aimed at attracting major sporting events, boosting tourism and stimulating local economic growth.
Designed by National Artist for Architecture Francisco "Bobby" Mañosa, the Mindanao Civic Center features a football stadium, gymnasium, swimming pool, trade center, hotel and motocross track. The complex was originally developed following Lanao del Norte's successful hosting of the 2003 Palarong Pambansa.
The Philippine Sports Commission has also inspected the facility as a possible regional training hub for athletes from Northern Mindanao.
Second District Rep. Sittie Aminah Quibranza Dimaporo said the complex is set to host Philippine Football League matches and Philippine Volleyball League games this August, further enhancing its status as a venue for national sporting events.
