The Chevrolet Spark EUV has been named the 2026 Electric Car of the Year by the Inter-American Federation of Automotive Journalism, or FIPA.

Automotive journalists from across the Americas selected the winners through a direct vote. FIPA represents motoring writers and automotive journalists in the region, where the Spark EUV is now sold in more than eight markets.

The award gives Chevrolet another boost as it builds the presence of its smallest electric vehicle. It also comes after the model posted stronger sales in Brazil, South America’s largest vehicle market.

More than 1,000 units were delivered in Brazil in April, according to figures released with the announcement.

The result marked a 70-percent increase from the 628 units sold in March and became the vehicle’s strongest monthly performance in the country so far.

The Spark EUV was developed mainly for city use. Its compact body should make it easier to handle on narrow streets and in tight parking spaces, while its squared shape gives passengers more room than its exterior dimensions might suggest.

A permanent magnet synchronous motor drives the Spark EUV. It produces 75 kW, which is equivalent to 102 PS, and 180 Nm of torque. Energy is stored in a 41.9-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery.

Chevrolet lists a maximum driving range of 360 kilometers under the New European Driving Cycle standard. The figure may vary according to traffic, speed, weather and driving habits.

Both AC and DC charging are supported. A compatible DC fast charger can raise the battery level from 30 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.

This gives owners a quicker option during longer trips, while regular AC charging can cover overnight charging at home or at a suitable station.

Driver-assistance equipment includes adaptive cruise control and Traffic Jam Assist. The Spark EUV also has lane safety systems and a 360-degree panoramic camera, which can help when moving through crowded streets or entering small parking slots.

Maria Fe Perez-Agudo, vice chairman, president and chief executive officer of Hariphil Asia Resources Inc.(HARI), described the recognition as an important milestone for Chevrolet’s electric vehicle program.

She said the Spark EUV shows how electric mobility can offer useful technology and everyday practicality in an accessible package. HARI, the official Chevrolet distributor in the Philippines, also plans to continue expanding the brand’s electrified vehicle range in the local market.
