Marking seven decades of diplomatic grace between the Philippines and Japan, on 29 July, the Uniqlo Manila Global Flagship Store in Makati transformed into a living tapestry of shared histories, launching the monumental campaign “Celebrating Our Friendship: Japanese Innovation for Everyday Filipino Life.”

The evening was an outstanding and noteworthy testament in global kinship and shared vision. The event featured SM Investments Corporation vice chairperson Teresita Sy-Coson, Ayala Corporation Vice Chairperson Fernando Zobel de Ayala and Mariana Zobel de Ayala, senior vice president and Leasing and Hospitality group head. Their presence, alongside Uniqlo Philippines chief operating officer Ikezoe Osamu, Co-COO Geraldine Sia and SM Retail senior vice president Ricky Lim, harmonized the brand’s evolution with the enduring commercial and cultural bonds of both nations.

The exhibition breathed life into art and fashion through “Island Installations” created with Salcedo Auctions, where Chairman Ritchie Lerma celebrated the marriage of Filipino heritage and Japanese innovation, paired with Re.Uniqlo Special Artisan Patches by creative director Wilson Limon.

Adding immense state distinction to the gathering were high-ranking government leaders, including Education Secretary Sonny Angara and Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay. In the distinguished presence of Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya (who was accompanied by Madame Akiko Endo) and Philippine Ambassador Mylene Garcia-Albano, the evening culminated in a sustainability initiative for 15 public schools.

This monumental gathering proved that true innovation achieves its highest poetry when meticulous Japanese engineering embraces the warm, expressive soul of Filipino culture.
