History belonged to the “Kings of P-pop” early Friday (Philippine time) as SB19 became the first all-Filipino, homegrown act to perform at Lollapalooza, one of the world’s biggest and most influential music festivals.
Under the afternoon sun at Chicago’s Grant Park, Pablo, Josh, Stell, Ken and Justin stepped onto the Allianz Stage carrying not only their music but also the pride an entire nation. As Philippine flags waved across the crowd and cheers echoed throughout the festival grounds, the P-pop Kings delivered a milestone performance that marked another defining chapter for Original Pilipino Music on the global stage.
For a group that began as trainees and steadily built its career through perseverance and the unwavering support of its fanbase the A’TIN, the performance represented more than just another international booking. It was proof that Filipino artists can stand shoulder to shoulder with some of the biggest names in global music while staying true to their identity and sound.
The audience reflected the group’s growing global reach. Longtime A’TIN arrived early to secure spots near the stage, waving Philippine flags and singing along to every song, while curious festivalgoers discovered SB19’s music for the first time.
SB19 energized the crowd with a setlist that showcased the group’s versatility, from hard-hitting anthems to emotional ballads. Their performance featured “DAM,” “GENTO,” “LAWLESS,” “Emoji,” “MAPA,” “WAKAS,” “Mga Kababayan,” “VISA,” “Dungka” and “CRIMZONE,” giving international audiences a glimpse of the group’s signature blend of powerful performances, storytelling and Filipino pride.
Back home, thousands of fans witnessed the historic moment through nationwide watch parties organized by the Department of Tourism (DOT). Simultaneous viewing events were held in Manila, Clark, Cebu, Davao, Bacolod, Puerto Princesa, Tagbilaran, Butuan and Cagayan de Oro, transforming public spaces into celebrations of Filipino music.
Department of Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay hinted to DAILY TRIBUNE that a collaboration between the DOT and SB19 could be in the works, revealing that a joint concert has long been part of the agency’s plans.
The tourism chief also shared that “MAPA” and “GENTO” are among her favorite SB19 songs. Showing off her A’TIN spirit, she even joked, “Gusto mo kanta ko (Do you want me to sing)?”
Meanwhile, thousands of fans gathered at Rizal Park for “Lunetapalooza,” with A’TIN filling the venue hours before SB19 took the stage. Despite technical issues during the livestream, the crowd kept the energy alive by singing the group’s hits acappella, turning the moment into a powerful display of the fandom’s unwavering support and passion.
Among those who captured hearts was 102-year-old fan Nanay Julita Odron, who proved that music transcends generations.
In an exclusive interview with DAILY TRIBUNE, Nanay Julita shared that Justin is her favorite member and revealed that she has been supporting SB19 since 2023.
At 102 years old, she stood alongside thousands of fellow A’TIN in Rizal Park to witness the group’s historic Lollapalooza debut, becoming one of the day’s most inspiring reminders that fandom truly knows no age.
SB19 shared the Allianz Stage with Pearly Drops, Bad Nerves, Audrey Hobert and Wet Leg, while the festival’s lineup included global artists such as Lorde, Charli XCX, Jennie, Tate McRae, The Smashing Pumpkins, John Summit and The xx.
Founded in Chicago in 1991, Lollapalooza has evolved into one of the world’s premier music festivals, making SB19’s inclusion a landmark achievement not only for the group but also for the entire P-pop industry.
