Joint law enforcement operations confiscated more than 14,500 kilograms of expired meat and frozen food products during separate raids in Valenzuela City, officials said.
The operations, conducted by the National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS), the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Valenzuela City Veterinary Services Office, targeted storage facilities distributing food products unfit for human consumption.
In an operation in Barangay Arkong Bato, NMIS and NBI agents seized 7,600 kilograms of expired imported frozen beef, pork, and chicken that were being sold online.
The seized goods remain in NMIS custody pending official disposal by the Bureau of Animal Industry.
In a separate raid in Barangay Gen. T. De Leon, the City Veterinary Services Office confiscated an additional 6,941 kilograms of expired food items.
The seized goods included pork, beef, chicken, duck breast, assorted seafood, vegetables and French fries.
Following inspections, authorities declared the products unsafe for public consumption and slated them for destruction.
Officials urged the public to purchase meat and food items only from legitimate, accredited retailers. Residents with concerns or complaints regarding suspicious meat sales may contact the Valenzuela City Veterinary Services Office at 8352-2000 extension 2111.
