Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay strongly condemned the shooting of a local lawyer and barangay official Thursday, ordering police to swiftly investigate the attack and apprehend the gunman.
Barangay Sta. Cruz Councilor Atty. John Yland “JY” de Ocampo was shot Thursday morning by an unidentified assailant. De Ocampo was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains under medical care for gunshot wounds.
“I strongly condemn what happened to Councilor Atty. John Yland de Ocampo of Barangay Sta. Cruz this morning,” Binay said.
“To the family of Councilor De Ocampo and the entire Barangay Sta. Cruz community: you are not alone. We will do everything we can to secure justice for Councilor JY,” she added.
Binay said the city government has coordinated with De Ocampo’s family to extend necessary medical and financial assistance.
The mayor instructed the Makati City Police to act on the case without delay and take all necessary steps to identify and arrest those responsible.
She added that the city government is lending its full support to the investigation and has ordered increased police visibility in Barangay Sta. Cruz and surrounding areas.
Binay also urged witnesses and members of the public with relevant information to come forward, assuring them that their safety would be protected.
“To anyone who saw anything or has information that could help, please inform the authorities, and we will ensure your safety,” she said.
Police have not yet determined a motive for the shooting, and the gunman remains at large as the investigation continues.
