MAGUINDANAO DEL NORTE -- President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reaffirmed the national government’s commitment to the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and its upcoming first parliamentary elections during a government convergence program at Philippine Army headquarters in this province.

Marcos emphasized the importance of sustaining the partnership between the national government and BARMM leadership, citing mutual trust as essential for lasting peace and development in the region.

Addressing government officials, regional leaders, and local stakeholders, Marcos assured that the administration remains committed to holding the inaugural BARMM parliamentary elections on 14 September.

"We are determined that we will push through with the second Monday of September," Marcos said.

The President cited that amendments to the Bangsamoro Organic Law were enacted following a Supreme Court ruling on BARMM's territorial composition, establishing the legal and administrative adjustments required for an orderly, credible, and inclusive vote.

He described the election as a critical milestone in establishing a duly elected parliament and fulfilling the democratic aspirations of the Bangsamoro people.

Special Assistant to the President Anton Lagdameo Jr. attended the event and introduced Marcos before his address.

In addition to electoral preparations, Marcos detailed the implementation of the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang Program, which allocates P200,000 to each barangay in BARMM.

Half of the funding will support educational assistance, including aid for five Presidential Scholars in every barangay, while the remaining portion will finance community-identified priorities.

Marcos also highlighted frontline services provided by BARMM ministries, citing social programs, medical missions, support for Hajj registrants, and the Iftar Program designed to respect and support Muslim cultural and religious traditions.

"Together, let us build a Bagong Pilipinas where every Filipino lives with dignity, realizes their aspirations, and shares in lasting peace and inclusive progress," Marcos said.

The election period for the historic 14 September vote began on 16 July, with the official campaign period set to begin on 30 July.
