Justin Arana will be a marked man as undefeated Converge aims for the solo lead against also unbeaten San Miguel Beer in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Season 50 Governors’ Cup today at the Ynares Center-Antipolo.

All eyes will be on the FiberXers big man as he matches up against the Beermen led by their prized center nine-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, in the main game at 7:30 p.m.

Meanwhile, defending champion TNT shoots for back-to-back wins despite still missing a couple of key players in the curtain-raiser at 5:15 p.m. against winless Titan Ultra.

Converge remains unscathed after three starts and shares the top spot in Group A with idle NLEX.

Behind the FiberXers’ early success is the steady production of Arana, who is currently averaging a team-high 28 points, 9.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per outing.

Arana set a career-best 39 points laced with 12 boards in a 149-124 drubbing of guest team Macau in Converge’s last game.

The big man and the rest of his team brace for a bruising game against a San Miguel side looking to win a third straight.

“I’ll give my 100 percent. Of course, we know that they’re scouting every game. We just need to help each other,” Arana said.

“I’m not the only one who can score on this team, all of us can score. We just need to be prepared. Of course, we will treat it as one game at a time.”

FiberXers head coach Delta Pineda also reminds his wards that there’s still a long way to go in the season-ending conference to be too complacent.

Converge still has to go through TNT and NLEX to end the first of the double-round robin group stage.

“We have a well-balanced league. So, if you put your guards down, if you get too complacent against any opponent, you’ll surely fall. So, we’re treating all teams seriously in the game,” Pineda said.

Aside from Arana, the FiberXers will also rely on the towering presence of Justine Baltazar, import Jalen Hudson, Alec Stockton, Juan Gomez de Liaño, Mikey Williams and veteran Calvin Abueva.

The Beermen, on the other hand, are on a roll after beating Macau, 129-109, and Terrafirma, 109-104.

Fajardo only debuted in San Miguel’s second game after sitting out the opener due to an elbow injury.

Limited to just two points and four rebounds in 15 minutes of playing time last game, the 6-foot-10 behemoth is expected to be in a better shape to matchup against Arana in the battle of giants.

Averaging 33.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists, Beermen reinforcement George King banners his team’s charge with CJ Perez, Jerrick Ahanmisi, Mo Tautuaa and Jericho Cruz also providing support.

“And so, obviously, this game is sporadic and a lot of things can happen,” King said of San Miguel’s last game.

“But if we can control the things that are in our control, it sets us up for success moving forward.”

In the other pairing, the Tropang 5G won’t be seeing stars Calvin Oftana, Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser, JP Erram, Kelly Williams and possibly Jayson Castro any time soon.

Oftana, Ganuelas-Rosser, Erram and Castro are still recovering from injuries while Williams is attending to family matters.

TNT head coach Chot Reyes has no other option but to rely heavily on his import Darius Days, Rey Nambatac, RR Pogoy and Glen Khobuntin for a follow up to their 106-103 escape over Macau last Sunday to begin their title-retention bid.

The Giant Risers are yet to win a match after three attempts.

Another loss will pull Titan Ultra deeper into the cellar with Macau (0-4).
