DAVAO CITY — Sports tourism gets a boost with the staging of the Davao City Ultra Trail Run this 26 July.
Set to start at the foothills in Baguio District in Calinan, around 3,000 entries composed of enthusiasts and elite runners are expected to cruise the 50K, 25K, 12K and 5K race routes.
Davao City Sports Development Division Office officer-in-charge Michael Aportadera said they are excited to showcase and promote the various attractions around the city through sports.
“We are showcasing Davao City beyond the roads. That means we are not only focusing on sports development in the city but as well as in the rural and back road areas which are not usually catered to mainstream running events,” Aportadera said, adding that a total of P1 million worth of cash prizes are at stake for the winners.
Aportadera added that the Davao Ultra Trail Run is set to strengthen sports tourism that will show its potential as a world-class trail running activity.
With an out and back course in Baguio District in Calinan, the activity provides a scenic view for the participating runners plus local communities residing the areas can benefit through their micro, small and medium enterprises during the event.
