Intel will invest €5 billion ($5.7 billion) to expand its semiconductor manufacturing campus in Leixlip, Ireland, as demand for artificial intelligence and high-performance computing chips continues to grow.
The investment will increase production capacity for Intel Xeon 6 and next-generation Xeon processors built on the company’s Intel 3 process technology.
The expansion includes upgrades to existing fabrication facilities, installation of advanced manufacturing equipment and improvements to the campus’ automated production system.
Construction began earlier this year and is expected to create construction jobs and additional high-tech positions at the site.
Intel said the investment will strengthen Ireland’s role as a semiconductor manufacturing hub while supporting Europe’s efforts to build a more resilient chip supply chain.
The company has invested more than €30 billion in Ireland since opening its operations there in 1989. Its Leixlip campus employs about 4,900 people.
