The Philippine Coast Guard, through the Coast Guard Station Northern Cebu, suspended the voyages of small vessels on 9 July 2026 due to strong winds and rough seas.
According to CGS Northern Cebu, the temporary voyage suspension covers its substations across Northern Cebu and aims to protect lives and property at sea. The suspension will remain in effect until weather and sea conditions improve or until further notice.
The Coast Guard Sub Station Daanbantayan suspended the voyages of vessels 35 gross tons (GT) and below within its area of responsibility. The suspension covers small passenger boats, motor bancas and similar vessels.
Vessels larger than 35 GT may sail with caution, subject to Coast Guard guidance and prevailing weather conditions.
The Coast Guard Sub Station Malapascua also suspended the voyages of vessels 35 GT and below throughout its area of responsibility, including routes serving Carnaza Island and Gato Island. Travelers were advised to postpone trips until the suspension is lifted.
Meanwhile, the Coast Guard Sub Station Bantayan suspended voyages of vessels below 15 GT within its jurisdiction, affecting small fishing boats, bancas and other light watercraft.
The Coast Guard Sub Station Madridejos likewise suspended the voyages of vessels below 35 GT, while operators of vessels 35 GT and above were instructed to closely monitor weather conditions and comply with Coast Guard safety directives.
The Coast Guard Sub Station Santa Fe also suspended the voyages of vessels below 35 GT within its area of responsibility. Larger vessels may continue operations only with caution and in accordance with Coast Guard instructions.
CGS Northern Cebu urged boat operators, passengers and fisherfolk to avoid sea travel in affected areas until conditions stabilize.
"Even if not explicitly suspended, smaller vessels remain at high risk in rough waters. Travelers should stay updated through PCG announcements, PAGASA weather bulletins, and local port authorities," the Coast Guard said.
