BALER, Aurora — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Station Aurora has temporarily suspended all small vessel operations in the province as Super Typhoon Bavi (local name Inday) continues to generate dangerous sea conditions.

The suspension, which took effect Wednesday, covers motor bancas and other small watercraft operating within Aurora's waters.

According to the state weather bureau PAGASA, Bavi has stirred rough to very rough seas along Aurora's coastline, with wave heights reaching up to 3.5 meters, making sea travel hazardous for small vessels.

Only vessels seeking shelter will be allowed to sail, provided operators submit a written request and the vessels carry no passengers or cargo.

Authorities also warned coastal communities of possible storm surges, describing them as abnormal rises in seawater caused by strong winds and low atmospheric pressure that can inundate inland areas and carry heavy debris.

The Provincial Government of Aurora urged residents to identify their hazard zones and evacuation routes, prepare emergency go-bags, secure their homes, move valuables to higher ground, shut off utilities when necessary, and evacuate immediately once ordered by authorities.

Residents were also advised to remain indoors or at designated evacuation centers during the storm, monitor official weather advisories, and avoid shorelines and floodwaters.

After the typhoon passes, authorities said residents should return to their homes only after receiving official clearance, immediately report missing persons and damaged infrastructure, and ensure that food and drinking water are safe for consumption.

The PCG also urged fisherfolk, boat operators, and travelers to comply with the suspension and refrain from sailing until sea conditions improve and the restriction is lifted.
