Alternergy Holdings Corp., led by former Energy Secretary Vince Perez, has energized the transmission infrastructure of its 128-megawatt (MW) Tanay Wind Project, bringing the facility closer to commercial operations and revenue generation.
The company said Thursday it successfully energized the project's 500-kilovolt (kV) substation and transmission facilities, which confirmed the readiness of its electrical systems for integrated testing before the wind farm begins supplying the Luzon grid.
The energized facilities include Alternergy's largest substation to date and the transmission infrastructure connecting the wind farm to the national grid.
"The successful energization of the Tanay Wind Project brings us another step closer to delivering clean, reliable energy to Filipino consumers," Alternergy President Gerry Magbanua said.
"This is also particularly significant because it represents the first wind project energized under the Department of Energy's Green Energy Auction Program II (GEAP II), strengthening the country's renewable energy infrastructure and supporting the Philippines' transition toward a cleaner and more sustainable energy future," he added.
The Tanay Wind Project is the first wind facility energized under the Department of Energy's GEAP II, awarded in 2023. It also features 8-MW wind turbines, which Alternergy said are the largest installed in Southeast Asia outside China.
Once fully operational, the 128-MW wind farm is expected to generate about 283.5 gigawatt-hours of renewable electricity annually, enough to power around 118,125 households while avoiding an estimated 197,780 metric tons of carbon emissions each year.
Alternergy targets to bring 500 MW of additional renewable energy capacity online this year, alongside the 4.6-MW Dupinga run-of-river hydro project, the 28-MW Balsik Solana Solar Project, and the 64-MW Alabat Wind Project.
