Jhodie Peralta and Kirby Ken Alas-as added three more silver medals for the Philippines after making the podium in their respective weight categories in the IWF World Youth Championships in Cali, Colombia on Tuesday.
Peralta, who collected two medals in the 3rd Asian Youth Games in Bahrain last October, snagged two silvers in the women’s 53-kilogram category after lifting 85kg in the snatch and a total lift of 188kgs.
For Alas-as, he plucked silver in the men’s 60kg snatch after lifting 113kg.
He fell short of another podium after finishing fifth in the clean-and-jerk with 135kg and placed fourth overall with a total lift of 248kgs.
It was still a job well done for the Philippines as it now has a total medal tally of fou golds, six silvers and a bronze meal in the World Youth Championships.
"This is our future and the Olympics beckons them. Thanks to our natl coaches, their parents, and to God be the glory,” Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella told DAILY TRIBUNE.
