A 47-year-old farmer was allegedly hacked to death by his younger brother inside his home in Barangay La Esperanza, Tulunan, Cotabato, on the morning of 6 July.
According to the Tulunan Municipal Police Station (MPS), the victim, identified only as “Pekto,” was found dead by his children in their living room. He sustained multiple hack and slash wounds across his body.
Police immediately apprehended the victim’s brother, identified as “Gerald,” 40.
Tulunan MPS chief Major Rolando Dillera Jr. said the two brothers had a longstanding personal grudge, which investigators believe was the motive behind the killing.
Further investigation revealed that the siblings had figured in an altercation days before the incident, during which Pekto allegedly struck Gerald with a steel pipe. Police said the suspect reportedly vowed revenge and threatened to kill his brother.
Initial findings also showed that both men had been drinking alcohol before the incident occurred.
Authorities are preparing murder charges against the suspect.
