Ilocos Norte residents gathered at SM City Laoag to watch Filipino tennis star Alex Eala compete at The Championships, Wimbledon, as the mall hosted a community watch party in support of the young athlete's historic campaign.

Families, shoppers, tennis enthusiasts, and supporters filled the viewing area, cheering for Eala throughout the match and celebrating every point won by the Filipina standout.

To enhance the viewing experience, attendees were provided complimentary popcorn, food, and refreshments, creating a festive atmosphere that reflected the community's support for Philippine sports.

The event also encouraged interest in tennis among younger viewers. Several children who attended said watching Eala compete on one of the sport's biggest stages inspired them to learn more about tennis, with some expressing their desire to take up the sport.

The Wimbledon watch party forms part of SM City Laoag's continuing efforts to bring major sporting events closer to the Ilocos community. The mall previously hosted a public viewing of the Philippines men's national basketball team's game against Australia men's national basketball team, giving basketball fans another opportunity to support the national team.

Through community viewing events for major international competitions, SM City Laoag continues to provide Ilocanos with a venue to rally behind Filipino athletes while promoting greater appreciation for sports, particularly among the youth.
