The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) convened government and international transport officials Friday for a lecture series focused on adapting maritime governance to rapid technological advancements and the global shift toward green shipping.
The event, organized by Marina’s Overseas Shipping Service at its central office, centered on the theme “Preparing for the Next Wave: Maritime Administrations and the Future of Maritime Governance.”
Andreas Nordseth, senior adviser and team leader of the European Union-ASEAN Sustainable Connectivity Package Seafarers-Technical Assistance, led the discussion.
Nordseth outlined the regulatory and administrative challenges that global maritime agencies face in managing simultaneous digital and environmental transitions.
In his presentation, Nordseth stressed that strategic coordination is essential for agencies managing modernization and decarbonization. He told participants that the most effective way to navigate these challenges is to “do the right things right.”
Representatives from several government agencies and academic institutions attended the lecture, including the Department of Transportation, the Department of Foreign Affairs, the Department of Energy’s Energy Utilization Management Bureau, the Philippine Coast Guard and the Philippine Ports Authority.
