SAGIP Party-list Rep. Paolo Marcoleta accused the administration of targeting government officials and private citizens critical of the government, claiming authorities were using the law to silence dissent.

In a social media post on 28 June 2026, Marcoleta alleged that law enforcement was willing to "bend the law" to go after critics.

"Those that fight against crime are charged, those that reveal the truth are made to suffer. While the people that benefit from the biggest heist in the history of the country are free, indulging in their greed and power," he said.

Marcoleta also blamed the government for the country's economic woes, citing rising prices of goods and services. He further claimed that violence in schools, communities, and on the streets, as well as the resurgence of illegal drugs, had been neglected because of what he described as the administration's focus on political persecution.

The lawmaker also criticized political alliances forming ahead of the 2028 elections, taking a swipe at groups supporting the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.

"Previously enemies, now turned allies. They call for VP Sara's impeachment, a common goal or enemy so to speak," he said.

Marcoleta's statement came a day before Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla announced that Sen. Rodante Marcoleta, the congressman's father, would face plunder charges within the week.

The younger Marcoleta has yet to issue a separate statement following the Ombudsman's announcement.

According to the Ombudsman, the senator will face a criminal complaint over his alleged receipt of P75 million in "gifts" from three individuals before the 2025 national elections. Although the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) cleared him in its investigation, the Ombudsman said the alleged acts could still constitute plunder under the law.

The Ombudsman also cited the alleged failure to declare the amount in the senator's 2025 Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN) as a factor in the case.
