Manila Water said customers in its East Zone concession area will continue to receive uninterrupted water service despite the ongoing El Niño and reduced water allocations from Angat Dam.

The company said Tuesday it does not expect to impose rotational water interruptions or water rationing, assuring customers of normal water pressure and round-the-clock service.

The assurance came after the National Water Resources Board reduced Angat Dam’s allocation to 48 cubic meters per second from the usual 52 CMS as the reservoir’s water level neared the critical 160-meter mark.

Diversified water sources

Manila Water said it has diversified its water sources, allowing it to offset the lower allocation from Angat Dam.

Among its key alternative sources are the Upper Wawa Dam and Tayabasan Weir, which can supply up to 710 million liters per day, and the Calawis Water Supply System Phase 1, which adds another 80 million liters daily.

Supply is further reinforced by facilities drawing water from Laguna Lake. The Cardona Water Treatment Plant can produce up to 110 million liters per day, while the East Bay Phase 1 Treatment Plant contributes another 50 million liters daily.

Expanding supply capacity

The utility is also expanding its supply capacity with two projects scheduled for completion this year.

The Kaysakat Project is expected to add 220 million liters per day upon completion in October, while the East Bay Phase 2 Water Supply Project will contribute another 200 million liters per day once commissioning begins in September.
