Beginnings
I formally began my practice in 1993. I began simply be designing for my family and close friends. From there, it began to grow slowly by word of mouth. I entered several design competitions as these were the avenues to showcase my work and perhaps be noticed in the industry.
Challenges
Looking back, what seemed like challenges felt more like opportunities. When you are young, there is this sense of fearlessness in you. That earnest bravery and innocent courage was part and parcel of starting to dream. I began in the humblest way by renting a friend’s basement with one seamstress and myself doing most of the work. I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. As each and every single experience was a tremendous learning lesson. That I am so deeply grateful for. To have been giving the opportunity to live out my dream and to do what I love is a real gift.
Where I am now
We are presently preparing for our Holiday 2026 collection. We have just opened our third ready-to-wear store. Given the climate and the current crisis, I would like to give my team a huge pat in the back as this was not an easy task. My daily goal is to remain consistent, to show up and to remain steadfast in the love of the craft. To be there for my employees and to make our clients happy.
Wisdom
What we do in the creative industry is not easy. Behind each glamorous image, product, project, piece and item that we create are hundreds of hours of thought, diligence, perspiration, dedication, discipline, pain, anxiety and pressure. However, it is what we love to do. It is that love that fuels the flame and pushes up to move forward and continue. I have learned that it is all part of the beautiful process and that one must come through. I also believe that one should never stop learning and that there is always something to be gained by being constantly curious, open to the possibility of the new and what change brings.
