AFAB eyes new pilotage, ferry terminal policies

AFAB
The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) is moving to implement a proposed pilotage system and new guidelines for the utilization of the FAB Ferry Terminal to improve port operations and service delivery within the Freeport Area of Bataan.
As part of the policy-making process, AFAB conducted a public consultation with representatives from the maritime sector, port operators, shipping companies, enterprise locators, and government agencies in Bataan.
The proposed Pilotage System aims to enhance navigational safety and improve vessel movement within AFAB's jurisdiction by regulating harbor pilotage services across ports, terminals, navigable waters, and the Freeport Area of Bataan Expansion Areas.
AFAB also presented its proposed policy governing the use of the FAB Ferry Terminal, which seeks to establish clear guidelines for vessel traffic and terminal operations while positioning the facility as a reliable and secure passenger transport hub.
Stakeholders were invited to provide comments and recommendations to help refine the proposed policies before their implementation.
Located in Mariveles, Bataan, the FAB Ferry Terminal serves as the Freeport's main marine transport hub, offering direct ferry services to Metro Manila with a travel time of about one hour. The terminal also provides shuttle connections to Balanga, Dinalupihan, Pilar, and other parts of Mariveles.
