The cars of my life

There are all sorts of reasons why we are attracted to something. These can range from the simple to the strange or weird.
For this week, let me share with you what draws my attention to cars. And, yes, I am a fan and will always be a fan of that motored vehicle that catches my fancy, and they may not be for looks only, but engine performance.
Cars are handsome
There are plenty of good-looking cars out there. What I call classic cars are those that pass you by and you didn’t even notice. And then, there are what I call handsome cars — the ones that hog the street and drive like a winner. Those are the cars that catch my attention. Mind you, it could be an old pickup with lovely tires.
I am not necessarily attracted to brand new cars. Funny how many people complain that cars are increasingly beginning to look the same and, therefore, have become boring to look at — not for me.
Cars provide solitude and serenity
Have you noticed that there are hardly ever any car ads with other cars in the picture? The ones they make are of a romantic night drive through some lonely downtown or over an empty bridge. Some seem apocalyptic as the driver appears to be the last person on Earth. And these drivers enjoy that.
Commutes keep my attention
I have been a driver, and I have been a passenger, too. When commuting, I can listen to the sound of silence or some recorded interviews if a deadline is on hand. But what you are not doing is physical work or healthy exercise. You are not with your loved ones or pets or experiencing social connections to the rest of the world.
Cars are great for nature lovers
And it always gets me how people in car ads are always the happiest people on earth. They are always driving on curvy, lonely roads or through wild nature.
Human ingenuity
The ever-evolving world of the automotive industry is a testament to human ingenuity. I just love how cars have evolved from the time I was in my teen to today. And how improvements in car manufacturing take place in leaps and bounds.
Modern cars are streaks ahead from cars a hundred years ago. The cars we drive today provide comfortable, smooth rides and very importantly, gives us more mileage for our money than before. They are, in fact, one of the greatest success stories of the 20th century.
Unprecedented freedom
Cars are a symbol of our individual freedom and personal independence.
I remember that owning my first vehicle meant not having to rely on any one else to reach our intended destinations or be hindered by someone else’s availability or lack thereof.
It meant finally taking my own path. And there’s something to be said about driving on the open road. No destination required.
Psychological benefits
Replacing an old, unreliable car with a new or quality secondhand car is also a freeing way for us as owners to feel invigorated through the increased performance previously lacking.
I will go as far as saying that perhaps in the psychology of cars ownership, it’s true to say that the romance between men and their cars does not exist in the same way as with women and theirs. Each car lover is different as can be.
For the drive that lets you escape to freedom
There is no doubt that there are many more reasons why cars make our human hearts go aflutter.
Whatever your reason, if you’re looking for a reliable secondhand car to buy and call your very own, or if you made a winning buck and will soon get the car of your dreams, make sure to scout well and know that a car, much like your prized jewelry piece — will be with you for a long time, or not.
I dream of cars even in my waking hours, it is a romance that only my most loved cars will understand.
