Authorities opened a temporary zipper lane along White Plains Avenue in Quezon City early Sunday to ease traffic as thousands of participants were expected to converge for the White Ribbon March, a nationwide anti-corruption demonstration centered at the EDSA People Power Monument.
The Quezon City government, in coordination with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), activated the zipper lane from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the stretch of White Plains Avenue between EDSA and Temple Drive to help manage vehicle flow before, during and after the rally.
Authorities likewise stationed tow trucks along the route to immediately remove illegally parked vehicles that could obstruct traffic as crowds built up later in the day.
The traffic scheme forms part of a broader security and mobility plan for the White Ribbon March, which organizers expect to draw participants from Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
The march, organized by the Interreligious Leaders Council for National Transformation (IRCNT) together with religious and civil society groups, seeks to rally public support for electoral reforms, stronger government accountability, and measures against corruption and political dynasties.
Organizers scheduled a Mass at the EDSA Shrine at noon before participants begin marching at 2:30 p.m. toward the nearby People Power Monument, where a program is set to begin at 3 p.m.
The demonstration is also expected to coincide with similar activities in other parts of the country.
The Quezon City traffic adjustments come as the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) placed Metro Manila under full operational readiness for Sunday's event, deploying thousands of police personnel to secure the rally and maintain peace and order.
Authorities advised motorists to expect heavier traffic along EDSA and adjacent roads throughout the day and encouraged them to take alternate routes whenever possible.
