Hot-headed ‘general’ facing gun probe

A viral video showing a heated parking dispute in Mandaluyong City that escalated into a gun threat has prompted a police investigation, with authorities working to identify those involved and determine whether any laws were violated.
The Mandaluyong City Police Station on Saturday said investigators were reviewing the viral footage, CCTV recordings and witness statements after a video circulated on social media appeared to show a man, who identified himself as a general, confronting a motorist outside his residence while brandishing a firearm.
The video shows the man cocking his handgun before approaching a parked vehicle and engaging its driver in a heated argument. At one point, he allegedly claimed to be a general, cursed at the motorist and pointed the firearm at him.
The elderly suspect, who repeatedly said he was already very mad, threatened to shoot the driver for parking and blocking the entrance to his house.
“We would like to clarify that our investigators are already on the ground to identify the parties involved and verify the details surrounding the incident,” the Mandaluyong police said in a statement.
“We are currently in the process of reviewing the footage and gathering statements from witnesses to determine the facts, including the legality of the firearm and the circumstances that led to the confrontation,” it added.
While the investigation is ongoing, police urged the public to remain calm and avoid escalating disputes.
Authorities reminded licensed firearm holders that gun ownership carries legal responsibilities and warned that using a firearm to threaten or intimidate another person may result in criminal and administrative liability.
Instead of resorting to violence or intimidation, police encouraged residents to resolve conflicts peacefully through dialogue or seek assistance from barangay officials or law enforcement authorities.
Investigators also appealed to the parties involved, as well as anyone who witnessed the incident, to coordinate with the Mandaluyong City Police Investigation Section to help establish the facts of the case.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Special Operations Group head Gabriel Go criticized the incident on social media, saying that even if the motorist had been illegally parked, it did not justify drawing a firearm.
Go added that if the man in the video is indeed a general, he should exercise greater restraint and responsibility as a licensed gun owner instead of using a firearm to intimidate another person.
He also called for appropriate sanctions against the individual involved and urged authorities to review existing laws governing gun ownership and responsible firearm possession.
