A 22-year-old man was arrested by police authorities after he attempted to flee from a routine law enforcement checkpoint on Thursday night, resulting in the confiscation of an unlicensed semi-automatic handgun and live ammunition in Barangay Sta. Ana, Taguig City.
The suspect was identified only by the alias Orlando, a resident of Barangay Sta. Ana, Taguig City. He is now facing formal criminal complaints for violations of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code or the Resistance and Disobedience to a Person in Authority or its Agents.
The incident transpired at around 11:05 p.m. Thursday, 25 June, while personnel from sub-station 4 were conducting a scheduled checkpoint operation along DMC Street corner Bambang ni Peles.
A tricycle approached the tactical line and was signaled to stop for standard inspection. While officers were verifying the driver's credentials, a passenger inside the vehicle suddenly became hostile, shouting and loudly questioning why the vehicle had been stopped by authorities.
As the duty officers used their flashlights to visually inspect the interior of the vehicle, the passenger abruptly bolted from the tricycle, forcefully bumping into an officer in an attempt to evade the inspection.
The team immediately initiated a foot pursuit. During the chase, the fleeing suspect dropped a concealed weapon onto the ground. Officers successfully overtook and restrained the suspect moments later, safely recovering the discarded weapon.
The suspect failed to provide any valid regulatory documentation, registration, or permit authorizing him to possess or carry the weapon.
Operatives confiscated one Glock 17 Gen 4 9mm caliber pistol with serial number AFGN596, loaded with a magazine containing eight live rounds of ammunition.
The suspect was brought to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for mandatory medical clearance before being turned over to the Investigation and Detective Management Section for booking and subsequent referral to the Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office for inquest proceedings.
