Armed man collared in Makati
A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after he was allegedly caught carrying an unlicensed handgun in public and possessing suspected illegal drugs along Arsonvel Street in Barangay San Isidro, Makati City.
The suspect is facing charges for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act No. 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The arrest stemmed from a report by a concerned citizen who informed police that a man was causing a public disturbance by openly displaying a handgun.
Acting on the tip, personnel from Substation 3 immediately responded and conducted a patrol using motorcycles to verify the report.
Upon arrival, officers allegedly saw a 9mm pistol tucked into the right waistband of the suspect's shorts. They approached the man, identified themselves as police officers, and arrested him.
A subsequent body search yielded the loaded firearm and a heat-sealed transparent plastic sachet containing a white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu.
Police identified the suspect only by the alias "Felipe," 41, an unemployed resident of Marconi Street, Barangay San Isidro, Makati City.
Recovered from his possession were a 9mm Viper 2 pistol with a magazine loaded with three live rounds, and about 0.3 grams of suspected shabu with an estimated street value of ₱2,040.
The suspect was informed of his constitutional rights and taken to a district hospital for medical examination before being turned over for booking. The confiscated firearm and suspected illegal drugs will be submitted to the Southern Police District Forensic Unit for technical and chemical examination.
