Andaya, Choco Mucho go separate ways
THE Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas is set to resume its national championships and finalize the Philippine team for the 2026 Asian Games, with athletes continuing training despite earthquake-related disruptions in General Santos City.
Setter Tia Andaya parted ways with Choco Mucho after just one season with the crowd-drawing club.
The seventh overall pick of the Flying Titans in the 2025 Rookie Draft penned a farewell message to the team on Thursday morning on her Instagram, confirming her departure.
“It truly was an unforgettable journey. The road wasn’t always smooth, but I wouldn’t change it for the world,” the Filipino-American playmaker said.
Andaya was fielded in two conferences in the 2025-2026 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) season but struggled to get consistent playing time.
The 25-year-old barely saw action in a relief role for main setter Deanna Wong and backup Alina Bicar.
A product of Gonzaga University and Central Washington University, Andaya flew to the Philippines to try out for the national team.
She was selected to be a part of the Alas Pilipinas pool under Brazilian head coach Jorge Souza de Brito.
Andaya’s continued affiliation with the United States volleyball, however, limited her Alas playing opportunities. Without her official federation transfer to the Philippines, Andaya remained ineligible to play in FIVB-sanctioned international tournaments.
Andaya expressed gratitude to her club, Alas and the fans despite a rather short and uneventful Philippine stint.
“Thank you all for your support and love these past few years whether it was with Choco or Alas, it was an honor to play both with and for you all,” she said.
As a first round selection, Choco Mucho still has the signing rights for Andaya for the next two years as per league rules. A transfer to a different club will require clearance from the Flying Titans and the league.
Choco Mucho has already shored up its playmaking position following the recent acquisition of veteran setter Ivy Perez and selection of Alas Pilipinas member Tin Ubaldo as third overall pick in the 2026 Draft.
The Flying Titans look to start the season right with a title bid in the PVL on Tour beginning 8 July.
