Eala, Sonmez exit Madrid

Alex Eala formally exits the Madrid Open after she and world No. 67 Zeynep Sonmez suffered a 1-6, 5-7 loss to Taylor Townsend of the United States and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the doubles Round of 16 in Spain on Saturday.

Eala previously lost to No. 21 Elise Mertens of Belgium, 2-6, 1-6, in the Round of 64 in the women’s singles last Friday.

She will now shift her focus on the Catalonia Open, a Women’s Tennis Association Challenger event, on 27 April.
