Video shows Tiger Woods’ DUI arrest after crash
Authorities in Florida released body camera footage Thursday showing Woods’ arrest following a rollover crash last week that prompted him to step away from golf to seek treatment.
In video from the Martin County Sheriff's Office, Woods said he was looking at his phone when he struck a trailer.
"I looked down at my phone and all of a sudden, boom," Woods said.
The 15-time major champion is seen undergoing a sobriety test before being handcuffed.
"At this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired," a deputy told Woods. "And you're under an unknown substance, so at this time you are under arrest for DUI."
Deputies said they found two hydrocodone pills. Woods told authorities he had taken "a few" prescription medications and cited multiple surgeries, including seven back operations.
Woods has pleaded not guilty to DUI and was also charged with refusing a urinalysis test. He said he will step away from golf and seek treatment.
"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in," Woods said in a statement.
"I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment on focus on my health. This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.
"I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger and more focused place, both personally and professionally."
The PGA of America said Woods will not serve as captain of the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup team. Golf organizations, including the PGA Tour, expressed support for his decision.
Woods has not played a PGA Tour event since missing the cut at the 2024 British Open.
