

Here’s a question – how long is your watchlist of series looking across streaming platforms? With the Holy Week break now upon us, there’s finally some time to catch up on a few of those episodes. In between church obligations, that is. Here are our picks to help you make the most of your screentime on this long weekend.
Love Story: John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette
In this limited series from Ryan Murphy, he puts the focus on the tragic love story of one of the world’s most admired couples - JFK, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, played by Paul Kelly and Sarah Pidgeon. The story begins from the time they meet in the mid-‘90s, their secret wedding on Cumberland Island, Georgia, to their struggles with paparazzi, and their untimely deaths in a plane crash in 1999. Based on Elizabeth Beller’s 2024 book Once Upon A Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, the series straddles the line between being a compelling and a difficult watch, because we already know how it ends.

We Were Liars
Since they were kids, cousins Cady, Mirren, and Johnny Sinclair, and their friend Gat have been inseparable, and given the moniker ‘the liars.’ When an incident happens on their 15th summer at Clairmont, the family estate, Cady finds herself grappling with hazy memories of those days. When she returns two years later, she finds that not everything is as it seems. The series, based on the bestselling YA novel We Were Liars by E. Lockhart, has all the ingredients for an intense family drama loaded with deceit, tragedy, and betrayal.

Paradise
Emmy Award-winning actor Sterling K. Brown leads this dystopian drama set in the aftermath of a global environmental tragedy. In the Hulu series, a select group of people have been living in an underground bunker called Paradise, built to look like your typical American neighborhood. All is perfect, until the president is found murdered. As conspiracies, and questions about survivors living on ‘the outside’ start to emerge, trust becomes a fleeting commodity. Julianne Nicholson, James Marsden, Thomas Doherty, and Sarah Shahi also star.

Imperfect Women
What do you get when Elisabeth Moss, Kerry Washington, and Kate Mara star in a murder mystery? In Apple TV’s newest series, we get wrapped up in a psychological thriller about friendship, infidelity, loyalty, and all the secrets people keep. When one of them is murdered, it’s hard to say who is telling the truth and who isn’t, pitting one friend against the other.

Shrinking
Hands down, this has to be one of the best series out there. Harrison Ford stars as the curmudgeonly Paul, alongside Jason Segel as grieving widower Jimmy. Both share a practice as therapists with Gaby (Jessica Williams). As they find their personal and professional lives begin to intertwine, and roping in their patients in the process, the result is a hilarious look into why getting into everybody’s business is always a bad idea. The third season just wrapped, so there is a lot to catch up on.

Virgin River
What do you do when life throws you a curveball, and you feel the need to start over? For nurse-practitioner Mel Monroe , that means moving from LA to the small town of Virgin River. When she gets there, things aren’t quite as she expected, especially when she meets local bar own Jack Sheridan. As she slowly rebuilds her life, over the past seven seasons, she also finds romance along the way.

The Pitt
There are medical dramas, and then there is The Pitt. In what is being hailed as one of the best series on streaming, each episode does a deep dive into one hour of a 15-hour shift, taking you through the motions of life in a busy ER in Pittsburgh. Actor Noah Wyle leads the cast playing ER head Dr. Robby Robinavitch, but also moonlights as writer, director, and executive producer. The show has earned rave reviews across the board, and has racked up a slew of awards for the cast.

As Holy Week is the season for reflection, there are a few series on streaming that allow you to dig deeper into stories of the Bible.
House of David
In Bible history, King David, played by Michael iskander, is among its most central characters, from whom, prophecy dictates, the Messiah would rise. Created by filmmaker John Erwin for Prime Video, the series focuses on David’s rise from shepherd to king – where he defeats Goliath with his sling, his anointing by the prophet Samuel, and later succeeding King Saul at the throne.

The Chosen
In one of the most iconic series about the life of Jesus, The Chosen offers up a different perspective to his life and ministry, as seen through the people around him. Inspired by the biblical accounts in the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, we see Jesus Christ as he was living among men, and as the Savior sent to save. For series creator Dallas Jenkins, Jonathan Roumie was the only actor he had in mind to play Jesus, and viewers would agree. The series is now on its 5th season.
