Authorities arrested nine motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol during a joint Tuesday night operation across various parts of the city. The Cebu City Police Office, in coordination with the Land Transportation Office in Central Visayas and the Philippine Coast Guard Special Operations Task Group, conducted the checkpoints as part of a crackdown on traffic violations.
The nine drivers were taken to the Cebu City Traffic Enforcement Unit, and their vehicles and motorcycles were impounded. Police said the motorists face charges under Republic Act 10586, also known as the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act.
Beyond the arrests for drunk driving, the operation resulted in a significant number of citations. Officials issued 73 Temporary Operator’s Permits and 78 traffic violation tickets for various offenses. Other violations recorded during the sweep included noncompliance with seatbelt and helmet laws, as well as operating vehicles without valid registrations.
