The Visayas Command (VisCom) continues to strengthen operational effectiveness and frontline leadership as Lt. Gen. Fernando Reyeg, Philippine Army, VisCom commander, led a series of unit visits in Eastern Visayas highlighting discipline, readiness, and gallantry among troops.
He was accompanied by Maj. Gen. Peter B. Burgonio, Philippine Army, commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) Storm, underscoring strong leadership presence during the engagements.
Reyeg visited several units in Samar, including the 46th Infantry Battalion in Calbiga, the forward operating detachment of the 52nd Infantry Battalion in San Jose de Buan, the 78th Infantry Battalion in Mapanas, and the headquarters of JTF Storm in Catbalogan City.
The visits aimed to ensure alignment of operational plans, reinforce adherence to military doctrine, and sustain morale among personnel tasked with maintaining peace and stability in the region.
A highlight of the engagements was the conferment of awards on eight personnel who displayed exceptional courage during security operations.
Reyeg personally awarded the Gold Cross Medal to five soldiers of the 46th Infantry Battalion. Three personnel from the 78th Infantry Battalion received Silver Cross Medals and a Military Merit Medal.
“These recognitions underscore the steadfast commitment of our frontline defenders to ensuring the safety and security of the people in the region,” Reyeg said.
In his talk to troops, Reyeg emphasized the importance of small-unit leadership in achieving battlefield success.
“We must consistently adhere to small-unit tactics anchored on strong and decisive small-unit leadership. We have already laid out a comprehensive campaign plan; now, it is simply a matter of disciplined and deliberate execution,” he said.
He also urged soldiers to remain focused on their mission and maintain trust in the chain of command.
“Let us focus on the mission at hand. Maintain the highest standards of professionalism and discipline in what we do. Let us stay united as one Armed Forces, bound by our constitutional mandate, and trust our chain of command. With this trust, I am confident that we will continue to move in the right direction and accomplish our mission with gallantry and honor.”
The visit concluded with a renewed call for professionalism, unity, and unwavering commitment to duty, reaffirming VisCom’s resolve to sustain peace and security across the Visayas through disciplined execution and strong leadership.
