PALO, Leyte — Seven former members of the communist New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to different units of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in two-day weekend operations across Eastern Visayas on 21 to 22 February 2026.

The Police Regional Office 8 (PRO-8) said the seven surrenderers — six of whom are farmers — came from various NPA units operating in Northern Samar, Leyte, Samar, and Eastern Samar.

Among those who surrendered was alias “Robert,” 58, a former member of the Buhawi Platoon under the Mt. Amandewin Command, Sub-Regional Committee Levox, Eastern Visayas Regional Party Committee. The group operated in the municipalities of Jaro, Tunga, Carigara, Capoocan, and Kananga in Leyte.

“Robert” surrendered to the 2nd Leyte Provincial Mobile Force Company (LPMFC) and turned over a .38-caliber revolver, three rounds of ammunition, and one rifle grenade.

PRO-8 said the surrender of former rebels supports the directive of PNP Chief P/Gen. Melencio Nartatez Jr. to intensify focused law enforcement operations and strengthen initiatives aimed at ending local armed conflict in the region.

PRO-8 Regional Director P/BGen. Jason Capoy lauded the operating units for their coordinated efforts.

“The surrender of these CTG members reflects the positive results of sustained police operations and strong community partnerships. We remain committed to assisting those who return to the fold of the law in leading peaceful and productive lives,” Capoy said.

The former NPA members are now in the custody of their respective operating units for proper documentation and assessment.

PRO-8 said the seven will undergo processing to facilitate their reintegration into society through the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which provides livelihood assistance, social services, and other support to help former rebels embrace a peaceful and productive life.
