The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Monday reiterated its commitment to remain strictly non-partisan as public assemblies are expected in Metro Manila for the 40th anniversary of the EDSA Revolution on 25 February.

In a statement sent to the Daily Tribune, the AFP, through its National Capital Region Command (NCRCOM), acknowledged the scheduled peaceful gatherings and emphasized respect for constitutional rights.

"We respect the right of our fellow Filipinos to peacefully assemble and express their views, as guaranteed by the Constitution," the AFP said.

The military stressed that it remains focused on its constitutional mandate and does not engage in political activities.

"We do not engage in political activities and remain focused on our core mission of securing the sovereignty of the State and the integrity of the National Territory," the AFP said.

The AFP clarified that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is the lead agency in maintaining peace and order during public assemblies. It added that the military, through NCRCOM, stands ready to provide support upon request and in accordance with established coordination and operational guidelines.

The military described its current posture as part of standard preparedness measures.

"As part of our routine preparedness, appropriate security and readiness measures are in place to help ensure public safety while fully respecting civil liberties. These efforts are meant to support a peaceful and orderly commemoration for everyone," the AFP said.

It added that its readiness measures are consistent with ensuring stability and security while respecting democratic processes and civil liberties.

"The AFP remains committed to protecting the people and securing the State, while upholding professionalism, neutrality, and respect for democratic processes," the statement read.
