The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Sunday terminated a driver after a viral video showed him using an agency service vehicle to drive against the flow of traffic.
LTFRB chairperson Vigor D. Mendoza II ordered the immediate dismissal of the contractual employee following an investigation into the footage, which circulated over the weekend. The video depicted the vehicle “counter-flowing,” a violation of road safety laws.
Mendoza described the incident as a clear abuse of authority that compromised the safety of other road users.
“As public servants, we should be at the frontline of strictly following the law and other rules and regulations,” Mendoza said in a statement. “Any attempt to use the authority that we have will certainly affect the perception of the people toward their government, and I will not allow that.”
The chairperson stressed that the agency will not tolerate violations of road safety rules among its personnel, noting that the termination is part of a broader effort to instill discipline and professionalism within the LTFRB.
Mendoza said the incident should serve as a warning to all agency employees to act as role models for law-abiding behavior.
He also encouraged the public to continue reporting cases of traffic violations or other forms of misconduct involving LTFRB personnel.
