BACOLOD CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is continuing its nationwide clearing operations under Oplan Kontra Bahas, removing illegal structures to fast-track critical infrastructure projects.
In Bacolod City, DPWH personnel cleared 29 unauthorized structures in Barangays 1 and 2. The move paves the way for amphibious excavators to dredge and declog waterways and drainage channels, restoring free-flowing water and reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rains.
Secretary Vince Dizon also shared updates on other priority projects. The Maa-Magtuod Flyover in Davao City is set to open after five years of construction, with pavement markings and railings being fast-tracked to ensure safety for motorists.
Meanwhile, a temporary bridge in Cabagan–Santa Maria, Isabela, nearly 90 percent complete, is expected to open in March for light vehicles, replacing the damaged original span. Dizon also personally inspected a makeshift bridge in Sitio Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro to plan a stronger, safer replacement.
The DPWH recently submitted a comprehensive report to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on major infrastructure projects nationwide. Completed works include repairs on the Bukidnon–Davao Road, the Kennon Road sinkhole, and sections of MacArthur Highway-Buhang Flyover, as well as ongoing efforts on the Maharlika Highway, EDSA Rehabilitation Phase I (now 49.4 percent complete), and other key projects.
