Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso visited a high-tech greenhouse complex Wednesday as part of a push to bring modern urban farming technologies to the nation’s capital.
Domagoso met with Metro Pacific Fresh Farms director Shahar Turgeman to observe how controlled-environment agriculture produces vegetables efficiently and consistently regardless of weather conditions.
It aligns with the mayor’s plan to convert idle and open spaces in Manila into productive agricultural areas to strengthen the city’s food supply.
The initiative follows a series of international and local consultations. In recent weeks, Domagoso met with the Singapore Food Agency to study food safety and supply management for high-density cities.
