Aboitiz Foods, through its subsidiary Pilmico Foods Corporation, distributed relief assistance to more than 1,000 families affected by Tropical Storm Basyang in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.

The distribution was conducted on 12 February 2026 in coordination with Aboitiz Foundation Inc. and the Iligan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (ICDRRMO). Beneficiaries came from Barangays Ubaldo Laya and Tubod, among the areas impacted by flooding.

According to local disaster officials, the storm affected over 24,500 individuals across 21 barangays. Heavy rains caused the Tubod River to overflow, resulting in widespread flooding, displacement of residents, and damage to public infrastructure and livelihoods. The city government earlier declared a state of calamity.

Alongside essential recovery kits, Aboitiz Foods donated 1,500 sacks and water storage drums to ICDRRMO to support clearing operations–helping improve accessibility to impassable areas and ensuring that immediate assistance reaches the hardest-hit communities in Iligan.

Relief packs included rice, grocery items, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits intended for displaced families and those staying in evacuation centers. Aboitiz Foods also donated 1,500 sacks and water storage drums to support clearing and recovery operations.

“This is not simply about adding tourist spots to farms. It is about creating stable institutional demand for local produce. It is about encouraging value-adding, strengthening supply chains, and integrating agriculture into the broader service economy. When hotels and restaurants consistently source from Filipino farmers, they stimulate rural investments, generate employment, and expand economic activity beyond primary production,” Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said.

City officials acknowledged the assistance, citing the role of private sector support in disaster response and recovery efforts.

Tropical Storm Basyang struck Northern Mindanao on 06 February 2026, bringing heavy rainfall that triggered flooding in several parts of Iligan City. Authorities reported casualties and estimated significant damage to infrastructure and sources of livelihood.

As part of the broader Adopt-A-City program, Aboitiz Foods continues its long-standing partnership with the Iligan LGU to strengthen the city’s disaster preparedness, response, and adaptability, helping Iliganons recover and build back stronger.
