SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — La Union showcased its rich history and cultural identity as the Provincial Government launched the Lagip ti Umili (Memory of the People) exhibit at SM City La Union on 15 February. The exhibit highlights the heritage and shared identity of the “Elyu” community.
La Union Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, along with other officials and personalities, led the opening. According to Ortega, the exhibit celebrates the unforgettable moments that shaped the province’s history and pride.
The showcase is part of the month-long celebration of La Union’s 176th founding anniversary. It traces the province’s evolution from its founding to its current status as a vibrant hub of culture and tourism.
Visitors can explore a carefully curated collection of memorabilia, photographs, artifacts, and historical narratives drawn from past La Union Founding Anniversary celebrations. These items highlight major milestones, civic traditions, and ceremonial practices that define the province.
“By preserving and presenting these memorabilia and documents, we ensure that La Union’s foundation, growth, and heritage are meaningfully conveyed and safeguarded for future generations,” Governor Ortega said.
The exhibit turns the anniversary from a ceremonial observance into an interactive experience, inviting the public to reflect on the province’s journey and fostering appreciation for its culture and shared legacy.
The launch at SM City La Union offers a central space for locals and tourists alike to engage with the province’s story. Running throughout the anniversary month, Lagip ti Umili celebrates the past, honors the present, and inspires a unified vision for La Union’s future, embodying the values of unity, resilience, and pride that define the La Union spirit.
