The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reiterated its warning against the use of fake documents in applying for government assistance, including the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao, DSWD spokesperson, said the submission of falsified identification cards and other documents is prohibited under the Revised Penal Code.
The reminder followed an incident on 11 February in which a social worker from the DSWD Field Office National Capital Region (NCR) intercepted a male applicant seeking medical assistance under AICS.
According to the agency, the applicant presented a fake persons with disability (PWD) identification card, and discrepancies were noted between his statements and submitted documents.
During the interview, the applicant admitted that the documents were falsified. The case was subsequently reported by DSWD Field Office NCR to the Barbosa Police Station (PS-14) for blotter documentation.
The DSWD said individuals found to be using fake documents may face appropriate legal action, including possible criminal charges.
The agency also urged the public to report suspected cases of fraud to law enforcement authorities to help safeguard the integrity of government assistance programs.
