‘Each recovery is validated... reflecting our commitment to transparency amid this tragic loss.’

  • Former police general and investigator of the defunct Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), Rodolfo Azurin, is now an undersecretary of the Department of Tourism (DoT).

Azurin was recently sworn in by Tourism Secretary Dita Angara-Mathay on 4 August at the DoT office in Makati City.

The DoT said Azurin will lead the DoT’s “Visitor Safety and Security initiatives.”

“Drawing on his decades of experience in public service, law enforcement, and public safety, Undersecretary Azurin will work closely with national government agencies, local government units, law enforcement authorities, and tourism stakeholders to help ensure that the Philippines remains a safe, secure, and welcoming destination for all visitors,” the DoT said in a statement.

Further, the DoT said Azurin helped ensure the implementation of comprehensive security and public safety measures at the recently concluded DoTxSB19 Lollapalooza” livestream viewing event at Rizal Park and other locations across the country on 31 July.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. tapped Azurin as special adviser and investigator of the three-member ICI.

ICI is a short-lived, ad hoc fact-finding body in the Philippines created by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. via Executive Order 94 on 11 September 2025.

Tasked with investigating multi-billion-peso corruption and anomalies in national flood control and public works projects from 2015 onward, the commission officially ceased operations on 31 March, after turning over its evidence to the Office of the Ombudsman and the Department of Justice.
