I’ve lived through many kinds of heartbreak—not only in romantic relationships, but in friendships too. For a long time, I believed love was black and white, that I wouldn’t find people who would truly help me grow.

Then, quietly and unexpectedly, love proved me wrong.

In senior high school, I met friends who felt like long-lost sisters. In college, I found more sisters—the kind who became my reason for surviving university, the ones who held me together when everything felt overwhelming. And now, I’ve met a man who has done nothing but make me believe in love all over again.

I used to think friendship meant constant communication—always talking, always seeing each other, always being on the same page. But with my sisters, I learned that love doesn’t require sameness.

We differ in opinions. We see life through different lenses, and because of that, we help each other understand our problems in ways we never could alone.

That’s also why I refuse to settle when it comes to love. As one of my friends once told me, “We treat you so well, and so should he.”

And they’re right. Why accept less from a partner when your friends already show you what care, respect, and love look like?

I’ve dated people I thought had good intentions—at least in the beginning. But things fell apart. Sometimes it was them. Sometimes it was me. I had a habit of pushing people away when they got too close, afraid they’d see the real me and leave. I can be clingy. I overthink. I feel deeply. I know these are things I’m still learning to manage.

But then I met him—someone I never expected, a friend of a friend—and he showed me that I was never “too much,” that what I feel is valid.

His love is patient, calm, and kind.

The kind that stays through the storm, that lets you cry until the weight feels lighter. The kind that remembers the smallest details about you—not because he has to, but because he genuinely cares.

I never imagined love could feel like this—looking at someone and thinking, How did I ever get this lucky? Being treated the way I had always hoped for but never fully believed I deserved.

Taylor Swift was right when she said, “I once believed love would be black and white, but it’s golden.” Because now, love feels like daylight.

I am loved by my friends, my sisters, and by a man who is my biggest supporter. And this Valentine’s, I realize I couldn’t ask for anything more.
