Subic Town, Zambales — A new 150-bed general hospital currently under construction in Zambales is expected to be completed by November, potentially transforming healthcare access for hundreds of thousands of residents in the region.
Representative Jefferson Khonghun of the 1st District of Zambales joined Department of Health (DoH) regional director Dr. Corazon Flores and Subic Mayor Jon Khonghun for a site inspection of the Subic General Hospital in Barangay Asinan Proper on Friday.
The 15,000-square-meter facility is slated to operate as a DoH-managed Level 2 or Level 3 hospital capable of handling serious medical cases.
Khonghun has filed House Bill No. 1227 to formally establish the facility and secure its funding. Under the proposed legislation, the hospital would be a Level 3 facility under the direct supervision of the DoH. The bill also authorizes the agency to expand bed capacity and healthcare services based on future needs.
Funding for the hospital’s initial year will be drawn from the current General Appropriations Act, with subsequent maintenance and operations costs to be included in the annual national budget.
Khonghun noted that the hospital will serve a combined population of approximately 380,000 people from Subic and Olongapo City.
“This measure promises to strengthen the broader health network of Zambales by enhancing referral systems and improving access to tertiary services for underserved municipalities such as San Antonio, Castillejos and San Marcelino,” Khonghun said.
The lawmaker added that the project will also drive local economic growth by creating jobs for healthcare professionals and ancillary staff.
