BUGUIAS, Benguet — Residents of Buguias are being advised to remain cautious and vigilant following reports of a new fraudulent scheme operating in the area.
According to the Buguias municipal government, individuals riding motorcycles have been approaching residents to offer frozen goods bundled with a “free” freezer. The suspects allegedly require an initial down payment or advance payment, promising to return later with the products and equipment. After collecting the money, however, they fail to return.
Authorities said the scheme has been identified as a recurring scam and has also been reported in neighboring areas.
The local government urged the public not to be deceived by such offers and warned residents against giving money to individuals promoting these deals.
Residents were also encouraged to immediately report any encounters with the suspects to their respective barangay officials or the nearest police station.
The municipal government clarified that the mayor’s office has not issued any permits or approvals for this type of business operation.
