Filipinos were reported safe after a landslide struck Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, on Saturday, where 10 people died, and left at least 82 people missing.

According to the Philippine Embassy in Indonesia, the landslide affected 113 families, destroying over 80 homes.

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing as at presstime.

In a statement late Saturday, the embassy said it is still closely coordinating with Indian authorities and the Filipino community for updates.

“The embassy continues to monitor the situation of Filipinos in the area and hopes that the search and rescue operations of Indonesian authorities will recover more survivors,” the statement reads.

Severe downpour caused slide

The incident was triggered by intense rainfall that pummeled Cisarua, a mountainous district far from the city center, around 3:30 a.m., Manila time, the embassy said.

The rising floodwaters forced residents to evacuate early to higher grounds or unaffected areas.

Indonesian authorities have issued an emergency alert in the area and urged residents to evacuate immediately if conditions worsen.

The embassy, meanwhile, encouraged the public to report any possible cases involving Filipinos to ensure that appropriate and necessary assistance could be provided immediately.
