The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted a series of clearing operations along major thoroughfares in Quezon City Friday morning resulting in fines for motorists and even the agency’s own personnel.
Gabriel Go, head of the MMDA Special Operations Group-Strike Force, led the team in removing obstructions and illegally parked vehicles to improve traffic flow in the Cubao area.
During the sweep, authorities issued violation tickets to taxi drivers idling along EDSA-Cubao. While some drivers claimed they were only stopping to pick up passengers, officials maintained that the busy stretch must remain clear of stationary vehicles.
The crackdown also extended to illegally parked motorcycles, including those owned by MMDA staff.
Several agency personnel were ticketed after parking their private motorcycles in unauthorized zones while on duty. One member of the sidewalk clearing unit admitted to the violation, explaining he had parked nearby due to his immediate work assignment.
In Barangay Kaunlaran, a vehicle was towed along N. Domingo Street after the driver was found to be operating with a suspended license.
Go cited that N. Domingo Street is a designated Mabuhay Lane and must be kept clear at all times to serve as an alternative route for motorists.
The MMDA also said that clearing operations will continue across Quezon City to maintain order on secondary roads.
