The first impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has been filed by lawyer Andre de Jesus, raising questions over its timing and possible political strategy.
Allegations have surfaced that Atty. De Jesus is the lawyer of First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos. However, Palace spokesperson Claire Castro said it remains unclear whether De Jesus has represented the First Lady in a legal capacity.
The four-page complaint cites allegations involving illegal drugs and supposed violations in budget implementation—claims that Malacañang insists have long been addressed and can be disproven.
Speaking on DZRH, Castro said President Marcos respects the Constitution and due process and is prepared to face any proceedings that may arise.
She noted that the President had already expressed his position on possible impeachment moves even before the complaint was formally filed.
Castro stressed that the administration remains focused on governance, citing ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in government spending as evidence of the President’s commitment to accountability.
She reiterated that Malacañang is taking the complaint seriously but remains confident in President Marcos’ ability to navigate the constitutional process.
