Marikina Mayor Marjorie Ann “Maan” Teodoro warned city employees Monday against discourteous behavior toward the public as local government offices face a surge of taxpayers and business owners at the start of the year.

The warning followed several complaints received by the mayor’s office regarding the treatment of taxpayers paying real property taxes and applicants renewing business permits.

During a weekly flag-raising ceremony, Teodoro told staff that such behavior is unacceptable and does not reflect the city’s service standards.

“Courtesy, respect and compassion must prevail at all times, regardless of workload or pressure,” Teodoro said.

Marikina City Hall has seen a significant increase in foot traffic since December, with residents rushing to settle property taxes followed by a wave of business permit renewals this month. The influx has led to long lines and high-pressure environments for front-line government workers.

Teodoro reminded the workforce that public trust is built through daily interactions with constituents. She specifically directed offices managing “Marikina e-Concern” to ensure all complaints and requests receive prompt and accountable action.
