The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued a show cause order Monday against a tricycle driver captured in a viral dashcam video allegedly driving against traffic and harassing another motorist.
This comes as the agency has suspended the driver’s license for 90 days while the investigation is ongoing. The tricycle involved has also been placed under “alarm status,” effectively preventing any transactions related to the vehicle.
In the video, the tricycle is seen counterflowing in the opposite lane, creating a road obstruction. The driver is then shown posing for the camera, making a lewd hand gesture, and sarcastically applauding the motorist who was recording the encounter.
“Counterflowing and lack of discipline are not just law violations; they are a disregard for everyone’s safety,” LTO Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said in a statement. “We will not tolerate drivers who treat traffic laws as a joke and taunt other road users.”
