The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has acknowledged that its revised modernization program is nearing its end in 2027, with military leaders saying preparations are underway for the next phase of capability upgrades.

AFP Deputy Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Rommel Roldan said the military is ready to submit technical recommendations as required by law.

“As the Armed Forces of the Philippines, we are ready. We provide technical advice to the Department of National Defense and other departments of the Executive and Legislature because it is required by law,” Roldan said during a press briefing at Malacañang on Wednesday morning.

“Rest assured that the Armed Forces are always ready with our proposals for any changes or improvements to the next AFP Modernization Program,” he added.

Roldan said the AFP is currently reviewing the ongoing modernization program while closely monitoring developments in the security environment, including changes observed before and after its implementation.

He said the assessment will guide revisions to ensure that future programs are aligned with the capabilities Filipino soldiers need to develop to effectively safeguard civilians and national security.

For 2026, Roldan said ₱40 billion has been allocated for the AFP modernization program, with an additional ₱50 billion under unprogrammed appropriations also intended for the same initiative.

“We continue to see the great support of our beloved President for AFP Modernization [Program],” he said, adding that new military equipment is expected to be delivered within the year.
